A Little Girl

A little girl
will always be,
living...
inside of me.

Playing hopscotch,
Jumping rope,
Playing house,
hero's and foes.

Reading comics,
laying in sun,
in the sand,
having fun.

Riding bikes,
sisters and bro,
swimming pool,
ribbons and bows.

Matchbox cars,
sketch pad and pen,
telling stories,
and over again.

Tickling arms,
walking in sleep,
blanket tents,
not making a peep.

Dogs and cats
a pig or two
chickens and ducks
more than a few.

Wonderful parents,
I didn't know,
Now I do,
Now I grow.

Barbie Dolls,
nickname too,
Radio...
Exile was cool.

Playing Isis
in the woods,
saving all,
when I could.

Twirling batons,
cheering at games,
riding motorcycles
in the rain.

On the ridge,
family and friends,
apples trees...
new boyfriends.

In the hollers,
dark and cold,
running away,
screams unfold.

Being a girl,
seeing a face,
hearing a voice,
in a new place.

Music down low,
first french kiss,
talking on phone,
hitting with fist.

Life mapping out,
future I know,
bits and pieces,
left untold.

Cleaning house,
playing soaps,
I was the star,
there was still hope.

A woman now,
tied but free,
beautiful children,
and still I see...

A little girl
will always be,
living...
inside of me.
