Spiritual yolk

So many wish to have heaven
Without the fear of hell.
"Let me pick and choose
the bits of religiosity
that I know I can obey"
Walk up to the spiritual smorgasbord
and dine only on pleasantries.
Ignore the daily bread
and go for desserts of sweet delight.

Your mastication will be followed
by the gnashing of teeth.

Your MasterCard or Visa
will be woefully short
when it's time to pay the bill.

Author notes

Many pick on religion. More pick at religion, only choosing the pieces they want to beleive and ignore the rest.

I like the concept of purchasing salvation via credit card. But it's as good as any way I suppose, since when you is dead, you is D*E*A*D and no way, no how, is you a-comin' back! Yeeha!

    Thank You!

Thank You for Your entry: Spiritual yolk
This piece tugged hard at Spirit and after reading several times ~
I'm Honored also Humbled You took the time to pen for my contest
You took the prompt and brought forth much for the Mind to feast upon~
Bravo!! When I digest words written, images come through that grab hard~
Woven Strengths: For some reason while reading I kept seeing image of
Bill Maher and his movie: Religulous

The first two lines grabbed and I am shown image of example...
Wanting to get paid without doing the work
    Very Interesting reference to:
    Ignore the daily bread
and go for the desserts of sweet delight
    Adore how that is worded...
While reading those lines~ I kept being shown now in my frame of reference
an image of Jesus however... Man wanting from Him...wanting of Him
to give what Man asks for in light prayer...brief request spoken over
buffet of food~ yet Man does not have Faith in God but because Man
    is in need...now
Blurts out belief in hopes to obtain riches he feels he needs...now
That is an example I am being shown for some reason
Hopefully that makes sense for I was trying to decipher what I was
seeing ...sometimes it is like playing charades

I'm shown example of how one does not sweat but expects another
to sweat for him...while having hand out to receive rewards
For some reason when I digested the word: ...I know I can obey...
in the quotation marks...I kept being shown how there are some who
are unable to kneel before another...have a hard time...giving of him
or herself to another in any capacity...Trusting the Will of God...
I am shown how there are persons who wear bull horns so to speak
    and refuse to place themselves into the hand of another for any reason;
Are unable to allow themselves to Trust in God to help them through
    trials and tribulations
However that is to be Interpreted

I kept getting~ some will say I Believe in Him
    but within
    speaking through thought-action;
piety placed in a blender [shown as Metaphor]
However that is to be Interpreted again
Love the direction You took with this prompt
Hopefully my comment to Your write makes sense
Powerful verse and message You have brought forth

    These words grabbed and pulled~
    Your mastication will be followed
    by the gnashing of teeth.
Vivid Imagery poured in these lines...

Thank You for sharing Your Talent also Voice
also best wishes to You in the contest Sweet Soul
    Many blessings too
with much love and light~ Desire~*~

Great observations! I guess I feel that so many claim to be Christians but don't act like it behind closed doors when they think they are alone. I don't claim to be religous but I do know that Jesus is my Lord. I try not to judge others but only share what I believe. I don't force feed people only offer a taste.

Thank you for having these contests that allow us to share what is in our hearts.

This was pretty interesting to me. In a way I agree with part of what you're saying and disagree with part of it. I think that people are extremely determined to avoid anything they don't like, whether it's about religion, or anything else. But at the same time, who is to say anything is wrong with that. I'm not saying we as people should live lives based purely on pleasure, but at the same time with as much suffering as there is in the world, it seems at least somewhat justified to do what it is that makes you happy, and in that way religion has become more subjective over time as people have come to accept that their religion doesn't have to be this or that, one way or the other, but instead can speak to who they are as a person, meaning they have to find the concepts and practices that work best for them and maybe have more meaning, even if they do come from different sources. On the other hand, part of me also thinks that taken to extremes this can be very selfish, I think in the long run most religions basically say the same thing, to respect and love others(most differences come from rules, rituals and cultural differences), and I think without embracing that any religion/religions that one might follow will ultimately be empty and meaningless for anyone but that person and possibly difficult for others to accept or respect in turn.

i agree, people too often just choose to believe what they want from certain religions, often mixing a number of them together to get what they want. but... why shouldnt they? every religion if based off what one person orriginally believed in, and that one person picked a whole bunch of things he/she believed would make the world a better place if everyone belived in it, and made it a 'religion'. (nowadays what you believe is much much more person, but at the same time, much much less important. what i mean by that is what someone belives in now is not something they think will improve the world if everyone believes it, its more what benifits them, or what can help them benifit the world.)
i would have to say that believing in a religion is wrong - however, there is no wrong, so i guess i just dissagree. everyone should set out to find what they want and what their own views of the afterlife through living. they should find their own morals and mottos, and not just submit to a premade set of rules someone else has already laid down for them.
doing that makes a familiarity with everyone else of that belief, which gets turned into a group, or a 'pack', and you form that mentality. then when another 'pack' takes a dig against yours, your whole group acts as one for revenge. (if thats what your religions calls for. but hey, chrisanity didnt nessissarely call for it, but check out the crusades.)
    thats my view.
as for what i believe in? i believe that as long as you enjoy what time you have, why bother with anything else? suprises and unexpectedness is what lifes about! live in the present, dont live your whole life for something that might be there at the end. i also believe that day you're forgotten, is the day you truly die.
