Fog dangled from streetlamps
like a soiled cotton dress
and the Steak n' Shake held death hostage,
stinging in red and blue lights.
Somewhere, a mother cried,
helpless as a newborn.
Yellow diamond signs warned
of changes, but
everything's still the same.
