I saw the sun once
She was bright and made of liquid gold
I named her, Daisy
She seemed so happy when the big blue curtain opened
For her command performance and she was allowed to shine
Flowers ever delighted in her presence and
Danced come summer
Children played at her yellow feet and
turned into precious gemstones while she held
Them close to her chest and kissed their beautiful skin
like Midas of old
Birds sang love songs from their Baptist hymnal
In return for their gift, Daisy promised to send her playful beams to skip
Through newly dressed branches of green
Then the clouds stopped by to call -
Wrapping her warmth in a chenille robe of gray
The flowers stopped their blooming and
pulled their petals up to their necks,
Birds stopped singing “Sunshine, sunshine in my soul today” and
suddenly became sullen and dark
The children went home
and the rain came down and washed away her shining
I saw the sun once

Thank you so much for entering my contest. It was a lovely poem to read but I dont know how it really relates to this song. But thank you anyway.

Lovely
I adore your imagery. I can almost feel the sun on my skin!
I think it's line 27: "washed away her shining"... shining sounds a bit odd...
