The low key melody plays
Within a reverie of
Last autumn—
When the trees were cooling and
Dropping their gems, the wind
Blowing all that was valuable away and
Locking it all inside my heart.
You played your guitar and I
Watched you, silent,
You were a force to be reckoned with and I
Was sick, so sick [an addict].
Your chords and tunes were my
Bliss, and after the music stopped,
It wound itself around my thoughts until
I could hear it in the buzz of the night,
See it in the bright fluorescent city lights.
We’d lay in bed and you’d put
Your arm around me, your nose on my cheek,
And I knew then what was to come—
The crashing of your melody against my
Torrent of unspoken words,
Clashing in the quietness of my aching heart.

Please tell me what you think

  • It's been such a long time since i have read any of your work that i got a shock and realised how good you are at the whole thing. i hope you didn't forget about me.
As always i loved the poem and it reminded me of when i first came on AP and was so impressed by a piece of your work (heroin/e) that i printed it out and showed it to my friends. They were just as impressed as i was and they don't read a lot of anything never mind poetry.
    See u soon, Jimmy.

Brilliant, but aren't they always? Trees dropping their gems was my favorite line, but I think the ending is very quick, powerful, intense and flawless.
