All The Fun of The Fair

Let’s go on The Waltzers Mary.
Remember all the fun we had
when that lad would spin us round
till we couldn’t feel the ground
then he got a thumping from your Dad?

Let’s go on The Ghost Train Walter.
Remember how we used to scream
and that chap climbed on board
just to scare your sister Maud
and she splattered him with her ice cream?

Let’s go on The Big Wheel Mary.
The view’s so lovely from the top.
We used to sit there holding hands
looking out across the sands,
just wishing that the rain would stop.

Let’s go on The Dodgems Walter,
but you're gonna have to drive.
I’m sure they’ll let us on,
they wont know I’m eighty one
and they’ll never guess you’re ninety five.

A fun read, the dare in their voices and memories of past fairs is very engaging. This conversation can belong to any age, made much more fun by the age of your characters. Well done.

What a fun piece. The tone from the beginning kind of had me feeling that it was not a couple of teens talking, but the actual ages made me smile. Nice write!!

Oh....I so enjoyed this ....evoking such memories of my childhood at the fair when it came to town once a year and as young girls we were in love with the young men who waltzed the cars round making us go ever faster.
a lovely poem and I'm pleased I stumbled on you...Lulu

What a lovely optimistic and playful poem. Its beautiful to link the past with the present without seeing the past faded away and completely different from the present. I really enjoyed reading this with its lively rhythm and the way the repetition ties it all together as well as fitting so well with the theme.

  • A great poem that takes the reader on a journey of ideas, and the last stanza is great!

memries from the corners of my mind

The last stanza reminded me of the add for the 'you know who' glasses
old couple sit on the roller coaster seat to eat their sandwiches, was that your inspiration?
No matter as Legend said an easy and enjoyable read.

and she hit him one with her ice cream? splattered him with her ice-cream. just a thought
sounds more messy that way (smiley thingy )
