Nickelback Attack

I remember, the first time "You Remind Me"
Was played on the radio, and I had to
turn it up, and my heart was pounding...
...Right out of my chest, and the hook,
Had hooked me "Are we havin' yet?"
...Yet...Yet...Yet..?
It took me over, swallowed me whole
The drums pounding a new beat for my heart..
Guitars dueling in a harmony all their own..
Vocals raspy, and raw...
I gave into the incredible DRAW...

I remember the time, I saw them live...
Driving 3 hours, to see the Campus Invasion
Because Nickelback had invaded me...
Getting lost, and trying to find my way back
A wrong turn, turned into the biggest moment
Of my life... The Marriot, best hotel in the area...
A tour bus, and the thought provoked me
..."Could it be them?"...

A quick glance of the curly hair, tall thin body
...FOLLOW THAT BUS...
Silver Side Up, pounding my stereo...
Quick, don't let them go, not out of my sight..
Straight to the venue, security's not gonna let me in..
"Hey, I'm with the band"...And they did..
I get out, my palms sweaty, my breath hesitant..
But the Raptor, Hawk appeared..
"Get out of here!"

And the person I was with, starts to go with him
Head to head... And I'm trying to act like
It was nothing.. And I got, kicked out..
A little tip, from a big black van..
And I knew where they were going..

...A head shop.. Pull right up..
Way ahead of the band..
And they entered, and I was..
Dumb founded, what do I say?
"Could you sign this for me please?"
..."Sure"... And I'm numb, don't PASS OUT!!!
So I stumble out the door, and scream my head off..

Onto the concert.. The arena, is dark
And filled with smoke, and the tension
Could be felt from a mile away...
And the chanting begins "NICKEL- BACK, NICKEL- BACK!!!"
The stage fills with smoke, and the screaming..
The guitars, the bass, I think my ear drums BROKE..

And I shove my way to the front, and jump
It took me away, and the band
Looked right at me, and smiled..
Yet with a bit of fear, like I might
Stalk them for the end of time..

And the songs keep pounding, the bass
Resounding in my head, and the vocals
Couldn't be loud enough, and I'm singing
My head off, and I can't even hear myself..
And then it's over, and where did it go?

My throat is dry, and my voice doesn't work
My body is sweaty, and my ear drums hurt
My heart wants to burst, and I'm sorry it's over
...And someone whispers, there's another show
Next month, and I have to go...

And the music took me away that moment, and I was
Lost forever...

What do you mean by "option 5"? There are no options in my competition for "Music-related poems" - or, indeed, in any of my competitions.

But the rules did specify no notes, explanations or commentaries. So please, before I return to this poem to complete the judging: EMPTY YOUR "Author's notes" box!

intense!! Being as flat broke as me, I get overly excited about any concert though I am still very picky about who I actually listen to at those concerts and the description of the intesity you feel when you're so close to some one who has overcome above normality into a musicain that is so widely known the pass out thing is sooo true.... last year I went to Family Values, where there was Evanescence, Atreyu, flyleaf, Trivium, Nerosonic, Hellyeah, and of course Korn, along with a few other bands. I was 4th row back from the stage, and in order to get a drumstick from Atreyu I found myself waking up in the second row.... i had flipped over two seats and bashed my head on the cement to get the damn thing...lol but anyways lovely description and keep it up

    NICKELBACK!!!!!

They are so amazing, aren't they? I absolutley ADORE THEM.
I'm ever so envious that you've seen them live though. I swear they have become the soundtrack to my very life!
    Anyways, more importantly..
This is one of the most amazing poems i've read on the subject. I mean, it kept my heart pumping. I myself, felt as if i was seeing them, meeting them...hearing and feeling that music.
That's hard to do and yet you've done it ever so well here.
There were some spelling errors, however they did not take anything away from this piece. I understood, i felt it. Amazing.!!

Thanks so much for the comment! Nickelback is my all time favorite band..!! It's been 4 years since that first concert - but I'll never forget it.

Thanks for the spelling errors comment, it's actually been FOREVER since I've reviewed this poem - fixed the errors.

A lovely tribute to a very smart band. I'm really not a fan of their music, having been inundated with it daily at my former place of employment, but I can certainly appreciate Chad's attitude towards the industry...he started out to make money, and that's precisely what he's doing. I can't really fault a guy for that, can I? Cute piece; the bits about the stalking were my favourite. Kind of prose-y, kind of lyrical, kind of in between. But then, I'd never make it as a wise man, so who am I to say?
