Missing You Too Soon

I wrapped my arms around his body
and pulled him in closer
I wasn't keeping him prisoner
I just didn't want to say goodbye

I could hear his heart thumping
as my cheek pressed into his chest
(He had always been taller than me)
I wondered then
If mine sounded the same.

If his lips crushed mine, would it have been roughness...
or just a burning passion that kept us fascinated?
If he could see through my eyes, into my soul
Would it be trespassing...
or just an understanding of who I was?

And if he was the last thing on my mind
when I went to sleep
And the first thing in the morning,
would it be obsession...
or just bliss that we call love?

The time came for him to leave me
I tip-toed, reaching for his lips one last time
(He still had to lean down)
And the goodbye that I couldn’t say
Streamed down my face in tears

*sigh
