"Scholarly" Credits?

how do you measure intelligence?

throw tests our way,

like the evil SATs
commandeering our entire future
and gives them an excuse to deny us on ridiculous claims

will we ever be good enough?

we live around what we think measures intelligence
what do we really know?

tests, quizzes
standardized and reformed

all may measure "academic worth"
but
really? is that all we can see?

the people behind the scores,
there is an entire living thing
I'm sure it's hard to think of more than a statistic or number

their knowledge is more than public or private education
or the units of study inside

we can know, but not by your standards
cooking,cleaning, money-savvyness, street smarts, being artistic
all of these take knowledge
none of which is measured in typical education

the way you teach,
is it the best way?
the way that will benefit students the most?

I think not,
I see descrimination

against those with other talents,
locking into strict requirements
most of which mean little to nothing

art or cooking majors
probably benefit little to nothing from history

where have our heads gone
when the "smarts" are so narrowminded
and opportunities worn so few
