Old man

Old man
Where have you gone to?
Can you hear me, laughing in the rain?
You provided this laughter, you showered me with the rain
And for that, I am grateful.
Old man
Is this goodbye?
I never knew it would come so soon
But you lived a rich life
One which left us happy and warm
One that we shall not forget
Old man
Do you understand?
Do you realize the love you have given me?
You have taught me more than you will ever know,
I wouldnt be me without you
Old man
Look at your mark
Can you see your imprint, here on my heart?
Look at the way it shines, this tattoo you have left
It brings me hope
It brings me peace and serenity
Old man
I say farewell for now
But I will meet you someday
We will laugh together in the rain
And for that, I will be grateful

Author notes

I wrote this after the death of my grandfather, we were extremely close.

    Young man
    Do you hear me?
I read it all and can't stop laughing
You made me happy in this rainy day
And for that,I wish we will see again

Ya I'm a tad bit confused." I read it all and can't stop laughing?" but yet you say "you made me happy" as well. are you complimenting the poem or laughing at it?

A deeply felt personal piece of poetry, the appreciation of your Grandfather is a pleasure to read. Such great gifts to be passed from him to you, laughter, hope, serenity, the fondest of all farewells for a loved one. Especially liked the reference to the tatoo.

  • aww, that's sweet my grandfather left a mark on me too, even though i only knew him for a short time.
