By The River
Of blissful hours beside the brook
When gentle breeze the foliage shook
A seedpod falls to float downstream
Bourne by the water keen and clean
Perhaps to reach a distant sea
Via wooded banks and sunny lee
Yet soon to meet its journey’s end
At landfall on the river’s bend
And there to set its tender roots
At springtime force its own green shoots
And so its destiny, not sea
But to become a handsome tree
To flourish where the river flows
And shed in turn its embryos
Which spiral downwards to the flow
Along the current fast and slow
To settle on the river’s bank
With others of its fledgling rank
Thus Nature’s cycle is assured
And river watchers never bored
What did you think

Thanks
Thanks for taking the trouble to respond - I'm glad you enjoyed it. I guess that Life is like a seed pod drifting on the water - we have to hope that we end up in a nice place where we can lay OUR roots! -
Thanks
I'm glad you enjoyed it - I guess I'm a little influenced by the Victorian poets, Browning and Tennyson which we studied at school - a long time ago! I do like poems to rhyme and have beat.

Bravo!!! Yes! This is poetry, superb, sublime... rhythm.. meter and perfect rhyme. So easy to float upon and enjoy the meandering imagery. Absolute pleasure to read a piece so fine as this. Please write and post more.

Thanks
Thanks Garmond for your kind comments - Much appreciated! I must admit I do enjoy the structure and rhythm of formal poetry - I must be careful though, not to let structure take precedence over content! I will post more from time to time.
Go well
