Minnows nibble toes
their touch too soft to feel
and breeze as soft as a lover's sigh
whispers through the reeds.
It's here I find my solace
where the mountains hug the shore
of the lake that lies forgotten
in the saffron summer sun.
As twilight starts to fall
the fireflies dart and dance,
cicadas sing a lullaby
to the pale and waxing moon.
It's now that I must leave you
for the path is rude and strewn
with vines and cruel nettles
and I could lose my way.
but I'll return tomorrow
with just one whispered prayer,
that no one else will find you
through the coming of the years.
