summer days, so hot, so sticky
hover ever closer, their touch like fire
the heat seems to scorch my brain
and the birds look for solace in the trees
with temperatures rising
degree by degree, I stay secluded
in my airconditioned home
and long for the days of autumn
when once again a gentle breeze
is felt across the land
its coolness welcomed with open arms
sweet autumn, please come soon
the beauty of your amber leaves
the last sweet fragrance of your flowers
makes my heart sing with joy
summer’s heat forgotten
as leaves fall and school bells ring
the trees rehearse their play
of dancing naked in the rain
for all the world to see
come close sweet autumn
hold me within your arms
before winter’s unforgiving cold
hides autumn’s peaceful glow

Good luck in the contest, Sweetie. This is a lovely and true piece about the best season of all. Bring on the sweaters, the afghans, the stews, the hot chocolate, I say.
