Pain

No one has ever said that life was fair
that living well would ever tie the score
that suffering in life would not impair
our hope for finding happiness once more.

The commonality of pain is clear
exempting no one from its brutal grip.
If free of it, it holds us still with fear
and given time our comfort it will strip.

But boring is the word for all this pain
and tolerance of it will find the strong.
For these, all pain is prelude to a gain,
a gain of wisdom true and deep and long.

For all the anguish life may visit thee
with faith and courage you are truly free.

    wisdom grows

    as we understand the why

compassion grows as we now know the pain of others

    very profound

    quite lovely to read

    God bless you my friend...

Ya Pam...life is difficult enough to understand at the best of times isn't it, but as they say,'That's life'...and of course, none of us are exempted and as hard as it may seem, it is as you say, a prelude to a gain...I believe that we never gain anything without giving something first, it's a natural law if you like, ah yes my friend, the great school of life! we are here to learn and there are many fires we must go through many lessons to be learned, but the more hard knocks we sustain the stronger we eventually become...but then you know all these things Pam, you are an enlightened soul my dear... however, it is important for us all to encourage and support one another, it's all about love in the end right...?!
In wrapping up, yes you are quite right, what a boring life it would be if there were no suffering, no pain, no sadness, no loss...lol there'd be nothing to write about would there...!
One day we'll know it all, but not now, there are many lifetimes still to come, and I'm looking forward to every single one of em'! maybe we'll meet in the next huh?
    Take care always
    J-J

    • Thank you J-J! I so agree with your comment! And I definitely think it is important to encourage and support one another...so true...so necessary!

    Hopefully We Will Learn

I like the way you put this one together Pam - and true, that faith can see us through - seems that at times our faith is like a reed blowing in the wind - buffeted - depending on it's direction - but faith is the substance of things hoped for - the evidfence of things not seen. - nice rhyme and flow - an easy read - be of good cheer Pam - Joe

I have read this a number of times, so lovely and true. You have woven this sonnet with such wisdom and care. I particularly like the second quatrain. Nicely wrapped and tied with the ending couplet Blessings follow a trial of faith. Our experiences make us stronger, wiser and more compassionate.
    Very enjoyable read!

    • Blessings follow a trial of faith? I believe that!!! I'm counting on it too!!!
Thank you for such a nice comment.

  • God gives life
    life has purpose
we can look back into our past and see purpose, these steps that trail behind are the steps that mold us and create us, through pain is born compassion., through our experiences we learn and grow.
and you my friend know this
very lovely flow in your profound words
    a true pleasure to read
    God bless you my friend...
    a billion 's

    • Yes, it is true that through our experiences we learn and grow. Thank you for your most lovely comment! Pam

A truly clever charactorisation of the consequences of pain sufferance and tolerance delivered in some brilliant imagery; "But boring is the word for all this pain and tolerance of it will find the strong".Great stuff I loved this stanza
