the end

your tongue is biting
quicksilver
and without remorse
i want to remember
that glint in your eye
mischievous
and lovely
now all i see
is your chapped lips
and clenched fists
spewing hate like a busted pipe
you are no longer
my greek god
idolatry no longer holds my gaze
trapped in your web
tangled and feeding on my desperate
need to love you
and desire something on a grander scale
than what i am capable of
i cannot keep the pieces
even and perfect
when you use a sledgehammer
to crack my bones
and smash my smile
into shimmering shards of glass

It is painful when those we once put above ourselves fall far, far below. Or perhaps we have risen above them . . . maybe they are just as they always were and it is we who have changed.

Well done. Another thought provoking poem.
