Sing us a song of the wind and waves
Where the clouds float by on high
Sing us a lit of a ship running free
As the gulls soar aloft on the sky
Tell a tale of the men and sea
And the deeds that they have done
Then chant the spells of the moon on the waves
With magic that stars have spun
Spin us a yarn of the bold and brave
And the men who have left the shore
Tell again of the love and the tears
Of women who lived the lore
Then we will see how their lives and the sea
Have been etched within each heart
And we shall learn how these bright memories
From their souls shall 'ner depart
And we shall find them from the tales they have told
Rare treasures each heart unfolds

I've always been intrigued by the sea, ever since I was a child. I enjoyed reading this piece. The picture reminds me of a very different piece of artwork I have myself. The idea is sort of the same, but different artists, more than likely. Your rhyme flowed like a song or a chant, something between a prayer and a ritual, I think. I enjoyed the rhythm of the piece up until the end, where it seems a little cut short, due to the shorter line. Otherwise, I fairly enjoyed the imagery and the story behind the picture that you presented. Very lovely work.

Dear Molly,
There's naught can campare with an old salt's tales
of sea-sprites, mermaids, sharks and whales,
of a scudding ship with wind-filled sails
or wild sea-storms and howling gales.
When I was a lad my granddad told,
as a Captain in the days of old,
of men-o-war and pirates bold
and sunken ships and buried gold.
Then, as a lad, I often thought
to go to sea would be great sport
and see the sights my granddad taught
before he berthed his final port.
But naught is gained by those who wait
and now I've left things far too late.
Thankyou for rousing these memories of my maternal grandfather, Captain Hugh Monro, who finally left his quarter-deck in 1940 when I was eight years old. I never got to fulfil his nickname for me: "The Lttle Captain".
Your poem stirs up those latent boyhood yearnings for the adventures of a life at sea and my lifelong regret that it was my destiny to be a land-lubber.
Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

As rhythmic as the rolls of the sea,
the continued motion, the ebb and flow,
your words capture the sea and the tales it holds.
Wondrous, Susan!

You bring the reader into the world of these seafaring men so well in your poem. The images and emotions that you create with your words are beautiful.
Your rhyme is excellent, as usual.
Good luck in this contest!!

Bravo!
This is wonderful a beautiful play on the mystery of the sea and the men drawn to it. Magical in light tone yet as mysterious as the sea itself. Another job very well done. An enjoyable read start to finish. Keep up the great work, and best of luck, Rick
