Silent Pause

Situations arise, bringing sudden thought.
Angry thoughts straining to break free
as anguish clouds the mind.

Reactionary words no doubt
may betray true intent.

Subdue the lion inside
lest it devour the unsuspecting.

Silently ponder your thoughts
and let them speak to you
prior to the release of words.

Most impressed. I have an essay, more an outline really called "Transmission" about the ways language is used. I wonder if I could learn to do this. But why? I am having so much fun being shocked by what comes out too quickly...

    Good advice

Sometimes you need to walk away and let things cool down. You might say something you regret. Simple words and so the silence does speak.

    Wa-do for the read

Thanks my friend. I can't say that I practice what I've written here all the time but I do try. Too many years of doing it the other way.

An excellent interpretation of 'think before you speak'. I've been learning to put this into practise the last few years and it's not as easy as I thought but it's so rewarding and empowering!

As for the way you wrote it, it's intelligent, precise and frugal enough to keep the attention. In other words it's sharp.

    Peace Georgia

Thanks very much for your kind comment.
You're quite correct on both points. It's hard to put into practice but very rewarding when you do.

A little adjective heavy, but an intelligent write nonetheless.

    All the best,

My life tends to be a little adjective heavy at times.

As you paint here there is so much wisdom and strength in the Silence.

    Well written.

      Thank you my friend.
Native American history tells us that when they sat in council there was more silence than talk. They believed that silent reflection before speaking brought forth greater wisdom and better decisions. I do believe they were correct.
The problem today is that most people want quick answers rather than those that may be well thought out.

      • you are so right hun.. sometimes silence is golden
but we need to take time and think before we speak
love your poem and work ♥
