If all the little things of the world
make love better at night-time
in this low field,
and if grass speaks sweeter
in the dark and a river
runs through it all slower
than God, it's because
nothing is there
to watch it.
So the eternal all-one-mind
of poetry fires itself at the cosmos
like a rocket out of sight,
an escaped moon beam
clawing its way through existence.
Each word a little nova,
waiting to make itself seen.
Sometimes,
forever.
And still the space of a night
is imperfect.
The lines come flawed
and terrifyingly raw.
How to distill a thought
into ink?
A secret into knowledge?
A death into wisdom?
Wisdom into truth?
How to make night?
Listen. Because crickets will tell you
with every ounce of their mortal being,
every stroke of wing and burst
of life in the making
under star light,
that night
is imperfection.
Imperfection
is poetry.
make love better at night-time
in this low field,
and if grass speaks sweeter
in the dark and a river
runs through it all slower
than God, it's because
nothing is there
to watch it.
So the eternal all-one-mind
of poetry fires itself at the cosmos
like a rocket out of sight,
an escaped moon beam
clawing its way through existence.
Each word a little nova,
waiting to make itself seen.
Sometimes,

And still the space of a night
is imperfect.
The lines come flawed

Author notes
Brought on by insomnia, last minute morphed into part 7 of the Poulenc series. (Yes, I realize 6 is missing. I skipped it.)
How can I make it better?

Ah, a Poet's Poem.
This is a magnificent piece of poetry. You make it look so easy. Your lines flow beautifully and your word choices are perfect. You gave me so many wonderful pictures to look at as I was reading it through. This is what poetry is menat to be. It's wonderful

wow. this poem is like one of those things you kind of inhale in, one breath, and keep inside you for a long time. it's really beautiful. and i want part 6, dammit.

You've got some really nice metaphors in this. It's well written and has a peaceful, slow rhythm and flow to it.
I clicked on this piece by accident, I was going to put in a prayer request on place of prayer for my grand-daughter who is in Peds. ICU... but honestly I am glad I clicked here now.. it's a wonderful piece and a pleasure to have read it!

this is a great poem, one of the best i have read today, (and i read a lot of poems every day) i love the imagery used here and i love the narrative- the calm voice of you. a good poem, i enjoyed reading it today, thanks.

-
wow, i can see space irself, one with the night.

-
wow this is an utterly gorgeous, brilliant write. if imperfection is poetry than this must be something above poetry, a whole new realm in itself.

-
Wow! This poem was very deep & intense. I like your style of writing. Thank you for sharing. My favorite part is: "Listen. Because crickets will tell you" So true.

I found it brilliant and sweetly philosophical. This is one of those poems you just want to be inside.

Wow... Very well done... Love your use of imagery, words, and structure (especially)... Love how you explore not only the beauty/secrets of nature, the origins of poems/poetry/inspiration, etc. as not only timeless concepts but also as "real-time" thought to ink... Yet, all thoughts/concepts/images etc. work together in a nice cohesive "whole"... This was my favorite in terms of everything, especially the flow:
The lines come flawed
and terrifyingly raw.
How to distill a thought
into ink?
A secret into knowledge?
A death into wisdom?
Wisdom into truth?
How to make night?
Thanks for sharing!!!

A fascinating meditation upon existence, the pantheistic world and a delving into the demiurge, done all very finely and smoothly in a modern voice... I did, indeed, like it muchly!

This piece has left me quite breathless. It's amazing in several ways. I might have to re-read it. Well done.
