Passing swiftly by the frightened fatted calf
I prepare mentally to take my chance
Steering him away like winnowing chaff
From horseback I lunge with my sharpened lance
Successfully piercing him with my staff
Ending this brutal life and death dance.
Tonite we'll celebrate by the fire
Gorging on as much as we desire.
I prepare mentally to take my chance
Steering him away like winnowing chaff
From horseback I lunge with my sharpened lance
Successfully piercing him with my staff
Ending this brutal life and death dance.
Tonite we'll celebrate by the fire
Gorging on as much as we desire.

A skillfully composed poem that could basically turn a carnivore into a vegetarian. Those mighty beasts that once roamed the endless plains, now are but a memory of days replaced by the destructive nature of human progress. The contours of what it will bring this world seem to egress in an eerily clear way today. And the recollection of impressive herds of countless buffaloes becomes sweeter by the day. Thank you for creating and sharing. Best of luck in the contest. Take care.

Thank you very much for reading and commenting. I suppose the life style change would depend upone the view of the reader. As a Native American, I do not find hunting, including Buffalo hunting a bad way to obtain food. My uncle has a good size herd of buffalo on his property. Once on the verge of extinction, the buffalo is no longer endangered. While the herds do not approach the size they had in the past and never will, the buffalo is now a survivor rather than a 'has been'.
I am glad you enjoyed the poem.

Nice poem... a throwback to when life was simpler for all. I especially like the background... goes well with the Native American theme
