I look at you...
And a smile begins to grow
This is familiar to each of us
A smile we both know
It speaks to the history
To all that has danced between our eyes
It tells how much we truly care -
Perhaps too much...
It shines through despite the lies
Which we always seem to tell -
Mostly to ourselves...
A former love...
A friend to be
Is this a possibility?
To stand side by side
Forever...
Lacking your hand in mine
To dance among the streets
Forever...
Knowing I must let go
To lie with you
Forever...
Not to feel your touch
These barriers which we build
We must see
Never...
To be crossed
A former love...
A friend to be
Is this a possibility?
On a night like this...
I can not forge the memories into something less
My love for you...
Is all I know and this I must confess
Heaven is the only word that can stand to what we held
Perhaps this is my blasphemy
(But you set me free)
Carry me to serenity
Where I can truly rest
It is my job tonight to fight away these thoughts
And to go on tomorrow as if they never lived
But a job like this always comes with resistance
(And tends to require some assistance)
A bottle or pill should take me down
But from this love there is no escape -
Or so it seems
For you are the one to chase away the darkness -
Even in my dreams.

I'm glad you enjoyed it

But.. I don't think you should aspire to write like anybody else. What makes poetry so special is the fact that each writer brings something that belongs only to them to every piece. Allow the part of you that no one else has to take over when you write, and then you will grow both as a writer and as an individual. Then others will be wishing to be able to write like you
