Self-Talk

Well go on, answer her...

What are you afraid of?
What are you afraid of?
What are you afraid of?

Why are you afraid of receiving love
But not of giving it?
Why do you have to be able to justify everything twice
Instead of once?

Why can’t you let once be enough?
And why can’t you let your wants and needs pull the same weight
As everyone else’s?

Yes, you heard me...

Shadows live from one need to the next need,
One meal to the next one
Flesh and blood have wants and dreams,
Colours, inspirations,
Half-formed ideas, tastes and flavours that move
As a lightshow from purple to blue,
Yellow to forest green...
Never still.

  ...The cavalcade of riotous noise,
Bright music, pure originality
that once threatened
to sweep you up...
Until you turned to boring, deleterious, dull grey.

Author notes

Inspired by Hope Angel's poem. Once again, I haven't been able to write for a while and something from her started the ink flowing for me.

Thanks, Jade!

This is my inner voice talking to the rest of me. Hopefully, the walls will come down soon.

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!

This feels like you wrote my insides.

I love the last two stanzas, those were written extremely well.
