Red Sea Smiles (Cinquain)

Missing image
Beneath
Her ruby dawn,

The sea shines like diamonds

Within the periphery of
My mind.

Author notes

A cinquain is an unrhymed five line poem of one or two sentences in 22 syllables.

First line: 2 syllables
Second line: 4 syllables
Third line: 6 syllables
Fourth line: 8 syllables
Fifth line: 2 syllables

This is inspired by my personal memories of the Red Sea. I spent five months there onboard a guided missile destroyer while I was in the U.S. Navy during the Persian Gulf War from December of 1990 to April of 1991. Those memories will forever be a part of me. What I saw with every sunrise and sunset was something so unique, and quite different from the Mediterranean, the North Atlantic, and the Aegean. It was the most vibrant red I had ever seen in my life, and the sea looked amazing beneath it. My time with the Navy created a bond with the ocean that I will always carry with me as a constant companion.

      Thanks again, Kaylee.

Those are great memories (even though there was a war going on). I was just outside of the Persian Gulf with the sixth fleet in case we were needed. Part of my job was to steer the ship and stand lookout. The Red Sea sunsets are so much more vibrant than what I saw in the Mediterranean. After the war ended in April, we left to visit a few ports before heading home to Charleston, South Carolina where my ship was stationed.

It is obvious that this is a poem
    that comes from experience,
the beauty of your words could only
be found in the enchanted memories of
one, whose eyes beheld it's beauty...
    This is so Stunning!
    Thank you for sharing!

      Thank you!

I live in Washington State (Federal Way)! I have always wanted to visit Hawaii. My sister went there on her honeymoon.
