those who wish the truth to be voiceless riegn
riegn in thought and so hold power
like a fist clenched round a hot iron rod
ready and waiting to strike.
Burining like a candle in the back of our minds
keeping the warmth of the nation alive
as it carry's the hope of our future within us
but who has the strength to fuel their fire?
When games have been made up to keep us indoors
locked to a fantasy that the makers control
all who play with the same start and end
what kind of a life is that?
Dividing the mothers away from their children
to finace their lives but the true cost was love
as many lost youngsters now lurk in the streets
feeling unloved and unwanted for now and forever.
Men are forced to work long hours
grumpy and tired as they sweat out the days
so when they come home their too tired to love
what hard work and suffering has bought him.
The old are forgotten, who needs them now
as their useless to those who want more, more, more
but remember their value as they fought for our freedom
and died in the hope that our freedom would live. but...
What kind of life is this?
Author notes
What kind of life is this everyone?
Children are dumbed down by games, wii's and computers,
Mothers are torn from their children to work longer to provide for them, when all they needed was enough to be fed and loved.
Love doesn't exist today, its less marriage and more divorce! It all costs money, people forget that love has nothing to do with that, but without money there is little love.
Men who work hard never get to appreciate the things that they buy becasue their too tired to enjoy it. IUs this fair? or is it deliberate?
and the old are treated like forgotten vermin, but they were the last generation to know freedom! We should be jealous of them and respect them for their courage becasue in their day, fighting for Queen and country was an honour as you fought for freedom, unlike now where the English loose their nationality every day, pride has become a dirty word, Racism has replaced all this. WHO CARES WHAT RACE YOU ARE BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE! Racism has been created as a buzz word by the government to set and to highlight those racial differences in neon signes rather than trying to equalise everyone. We should respect the old for their bravery, their sacrifices to give everyone the chance to be free!
But those who play games freely give up the chance to know what its like to live, trapped in a game bubble is their choice.
Mothers and men seem to have no choice as they care for those and support their greed or their families.
Who even remembers what it was like to smoke whevever they wanted?
(I don't smoke but many do)
Who remembers a time when they could walk down the street and not wonder how many cameras are watching your every move?
Who remembers ONE day when there wasn't something teriffically bad on the news?
If you can't remember then that is appauling. WE SHOULD BE FREE TO SPEAK OUT! WE SHOULD BE FREE TO ACT! AND WE SHOULD BE FREE TO LIVE!
We have to peacefully make a stand against our repressors and show them that love is more important than money, without the workers working the less control the people at the top have.

good luck in the contest honey. -
This is very true mothers have to work long hours to suport the family while one on one time mom and child very seldom exists. Theres not enough time in the day. They could have very good parents though. Thank you for penning very nice poetry. Very enjoyable read

Strong message and poignantly penned. You really speak for all those without a voice here(or those too tired to speak). This isn't generally where I recommend a book, but you should check out 'The Outsider'. Really enjoyed this, thanks for the great write! Keep penning.

wow
this is superb, excellent. an angry piece of socio/politico writing in a great poetic form...i will have to find away to save this on this site, if there is a way...this reminds me so much of a saying by Nye Bevan "either poverty will use democracy to fight property, or property in fear of poverty will destroy democracy"......

Wow... this is clearly something that you feel passionate about. This is a very strong piece, and truly does get me thinking about how the world and quality of life has progressed over the years.
Though I don't really know that there would have ever been a time without something bad happening in the news. I just think that with the changing world, the definition of "bad news" has grown into something more horrible than it used to be... because the world is not the same anymore. It's the pattern of life. If went back 50 years, there would still be bad news, there would still be people struggling to make ends meet and not spending enought time with their families... And I guess in an ideal world there wouldn't be any of that... but every generation has it's battles. It's just a symptom of an evolving world.
Thank you for the thought provoking read!

Superb Plus +
Your thoughts, so well expressed, reminded me of a very famous poem, from the Holocaust of WWII:
They First Came... (a poem regarding the Holocaust)
Poem (1976 version)
Als die Nazis die Kommunisten holten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Kommunist.
Als sie die Sozialdemokraten einsperrten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Sozialdemokrat.
Als sie die Gewerkschafter holten,
habe ich nicht protestiert;
ich war ja kein Gewerkschafter.
Als sie die Juden holten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Jude.
Als sie mich holten,
gab es keinen mehr, der protestieren konnte.
Original Translation:
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I was not a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

You can see this one on my Profile Page also.
I personally have met, and talked with surviors of the Holocaust, with in the apt. bldg. where I live.
Again, your was very well written.
