Alphabet Stew

Bananas, Bologna, and Biscuits with Brie,
Bagels and Burgers with Bacon and Beans
I’m eating my way through the foods in the B's.
Tomorrow I’ll move on to eat through the C's.
        Corn chips, Candy,
        Chocolate Carmel Creams,
        Cupcakes, Crumpets,
        Custard that is steamed.
        Cola and Cookies,
        Every kind of Cake.
The next day I’ll dive into Devil’s food by Drakes.
        Pizza and Puddin’
        Pies and Parfaits too.
My heart quietly quickens as I eat my way to Q.
        R then S, T then U
My alpha bet is almost through.
So if you could just help me please -
What tasty food does start with Z?

Author notes

This is at its best when read aloud.

My apologies to Sarah Sylvia Cynthia Stout - who would not take the garbage out.

    Grapes, Greens, Goulash, Gravy
Beans are best my favorite, navy
Potaoes and pasta, pralines and peanuts
Better stop eating before I bust my guts
    Lemons, limes, linguinie, and leak
My mouth is so full it won't let me speak
I think I've run out of alliterations
I've ate so much I need two vacations.

Couldn't help myself, thanks for the inspiration! Great, fun with this poem. Good luck with the contest!

    Much Love,
    Renee

Now THERE'S a tasty Z food ... much better suited to this growing list than zucchini - at least to my taste buds.

    Thanks, pof.

    Jenn,
I too have trouble with some of Silverstein's style of metering, but if I am to remain true to honoring his style, rather than my own, I think some bumps are needed.

From my reading, I noticed a couple bumpy meter spots (but I'm no meter queen)
Tomorrow I’ll move on to eat through the C's.
    Corn chips, Candy,
    Chocolate Carmel Creams,

Sounded better to my ear as:
    Corn chips and Candy,
    sweet Chocolate Creams,

Also, parfaits and pies too -- sounds better to my ear.

Very cute poem, I love the idea! Good entry for the contest.

Yes, that also works very well to divide the line in two.

I love this background! Incredibly fitting for the piece which is also very enjoyable. And props to Unbridled for a very cute answer to the question of Z.
My one comment on this piece would be that in the line " Cupcakes, Crumpets and Custard that is steamed" 'that is' would probably flow better as 'that's ', since the extra syllable feels like it makes the line a little too long for the rhythm.
otherwise a good write, and keep penning!

    Zasta and Zoodles and Zeggs
    works for me
    When looking to find foods
    that start with a "Z"
I'll create a new food group,
    Zodas, Zancakes and more
    until I'm too big
    to fit through my door!
    Zaffles and Zotatoes,
    Zandwiches, Zice Cream,
    see how easy it is
to find foods with a "Z"!

    hahaha...again, big giggles!

Oh goody, Kyla! You indeed did come up with a tasty Z. Glad I didn't think of it - for only Silverstein or Tater could come up with a proper rhyme for that one! Perhaps I can use it in the Sequel.

Mmmmm.... this is delicious, you made me hungry!
The first Z to spring to mind was zucchini, which I love but admittedly is nowhere near as tempting chocolate caramel creams LOL!
So my offering is "zabaglione" a delicious Italian dessert, (which is basically a variation on British custard), well worth saving a bit of room for as you chomp your way through the alphabet.
    Good luck in the contest
    Kyla
