In One Second

In one second’s time,
So very small in the lengths
Of our lives,
And yet in that one second,
A world can happen.

In one second a life can be lost,
But in another found.

In one second a dream can be forgotten,
But in another reached.

In Just one second sadness can overwhelm,
And in another, consume with joy.

And as that second hand moves,
Pain and sorrow find their victims,
And happiness finds the worthy.

So as that second passes,
Embrace upon that second,
As it will never come again,
For everyone felt that second
It’s fate unavoidable,
And accept what you were given,
And hope for the next,
As so much can happen in just one second.

    Wow

You're right we are saying the same thing I like the way you made it short and to the point almost like an urgency to what it was that you were saying. Me, I just personally like to use metaphors like that because I like the visual aspect they provide. Very well done! And sorry it took so long before I could read your poem

Nice write, and a powerful message. If one lives recognizing the power they have and the changes they can make in just a second, they'll accomplish far more in life than they ever thought possible. Congrats on having the poem featured on the front page of the site in the "In the Spotlight" section, I can see why it was nominated.

  • A positive message.

Nice! These are words to live by for everyone. We have to take the bad with the good, and try to see the lesson we are being taught. If we didn't make mistakes, we would never learn, likewise, how would we know happiness if we didn't know sadness. And you're right about everything changing in a second...one second of uncontrollable rage has landed many people in a lot of trouble.

Even though this is not rhyming (my favorite) I'm giving maximum applause for the message...keep up the good work!

A send passes, a minute does too, some spend hours doing nothing and wasting their lives. A wonderful poem that really tugs hard and makes one wonder how can life change so fast without us even noticing.
Thanks for the read, very thoughts provoking.

    Love

This is really good. I love your description and the way you wrote it Very inspiring!

  • Really captivating... I don't know what to say in response. It just makes me think of the saying, "Time goes on." So much can happen in a second, it's just how fast people like to live that they miss those things. The beauty of life is lost in business and work... It's actually sad if you think about it.
Your poem is filled with emotion and great wording. I hope you keep writing!

This is very true and thought-provoking, and gracefully expressed. Maybe you could try using examples of what can happen in a second, to make it even more vivid.

  • I like it and yes another second passes, it always will.
A really great piece and i really loved it, it was also a really wonderful read. Amazing!

  • Wonderful write
I love the flow of this as well as the message in it. Too often do we take for granted what can happen in a second, so we forget to cherish a moment that may haunt us until our very end. Great write as always

  • Wow
