Standing alone in a darkened room
I watch puppy love couples embracing
as they sway to pelvic thrusting music.
Suddenly, a song I recognise begins to play;
A slow melody that very few would know anymore.
"Would you like to dance?"
I turn to see him,
holding out his hand to me
as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
It is only when he places his hands on my waist
do I feel them tremble.
This boy who has nerves of steel
among the multitudes
is terrified of one girl.
I smile shyly
more to settle my nerves than his,
but I feel him relax.
The song picks up pace as I knew it would;
couples all around us break apart
feeling cheated out of their romantic moment.
He still holds me close
as if nothing has changed.
"Everyone's staring..." I whisper in mild panic.
He looks at me with his hazel eyes shining despite the darkness
"Let them stare."
We dance together
swaying to the music that plays only in our minds.

Well captured those first apprehensive moments that remain as long-term memories. You have a typo----his hazel eyes shining

Whoops
Thanks for the typo correction; usually I'm pretty good at checking over my work, but everyone makes mistakes.

This is very good, it's almost prose. But I certainly relate to that perfect dance. <3
