An Attempt to be Clever

An attempt to be clever
Is no closer than ever
Than ever I’ve witnessed before.

The turning of phrases
Are twisted in phases
Found bottled in pages of lore.

They catch me with tear drops
Before cold-hearted fear mops
The rest of me off of the floor.

The books encompass me
While words, they harass me,
Coax me to beg them for more.

Author notes

Who I am shows through more in the wording and the wordplay than in the images themselves, but those too. Enjoy.

a nice write my dear. short, but not too short, and sweet. nice wordplay. hope you keep on writting!

  • This is an awesome poem. I to like to read books. Somehow it makes us clever in a way. I enjoyed the read!!! Thank you for entering my contest.

  • I've often felt the same way, Sarah. I don't have the words and inspiration yet, let me stumble across them in something else I read -- a valid excuse, but for how long? Books have sometimes been sorts of roadblocks to inspiration for me in that way.

Lovely wordplay, and the flow felt so right.
