I've warned you all for years
To comfort your darkest fears
Because soon we will all be tested.
Ominous dark clouds are starting to roll in
The future as I said, does look very grim.
I said there'd be death
I said there'd be war.
I mentioned famine
And starvation galore.
Don't these sound like happy things?
Now comes the heat of fires from shore to shore
Next comes the waves, pounding at your door.
Oh here's a grand idea...
Lets dress the Grim Reaper in uniform,
And tell everyone he's on our side.
Then we can watch our own neighbors die!
Simple fools I warned you of these days,
Some nights I even prayed.
But alas my foresight cannot stop this blight.
It's coming you know,
It may even happen tonight.
This is my last piece,
After it I shall write no more.
I've tried
I've cried
I've worn my eyes dry.
Sit in the solace of your blighted bliss,
While things begin to run more amiss.
This is my last warning and all I have left,
I write these words with what may be my last breath.

Ah, I hear what you say, and quite agree, for the times are perilous. Your imagery is frightning, as it should be. You certainly have expressed your thoughts quite well. Thanks for sharing this one with us.

I think you must have revised the poem since the first comment was placed. I know sometimes I do as you, I choose words that sound similar but don't actually literally rhyme. You might want to check into these words and see if you can find more appropriate words for:
Left and breath, prayed and days, side and die. I know these words have a way of sounding similiar but they don't literally rhyme. All and all you have a good story going there
I enjoyed reading it.

Not all things are intended to rhyme. I chose my words because of the meaning behind them, not their sounds.

I understand you chose those words. I just felt the flow was off. I am sorry if I offended you.

This is a dark, powerful write. The rhyme sprinkled throughout added emphasis and impact, and the repetition of similar lines (I've tried/I've Cried etc.) worked well.

simple fools - they have been warned many times and in many different voices, including my own...yet they shall never hear, for they choose their own brands of ignorance and therefore, deserve to be fleeced in the floods and scorched in sorrows too profound to fully comprehend.
the end is nigh my friend and so it shall be...
you & i shall finally be free
