The Human Figure

Until today, it's fascinated me...
the flow, sometimes broken, sometimes melting, sometimes rail-thin and wrought with guilt,
of the legs to the hips & creamy skin of stomach, slight indent where a cord once connected this form to another
Up to the chest, breasts, out to gentle or rough shoulders with stalactite arms dripping down...

and the motion,
the flow,
of rivers,
of fingers,
of streams, of legs,
of springs of tongues of wind of hair of rain of sweat of grass of toes of ... of ... of nature of man
...

I was in love until I saw the unholy word, 'figure'.

Figures:
25,000 child deaths today
74 year average life span
525,600 minutes in a year
Figures of deficit
. of profit
. of resources
. of needless consumption
. of advertisements
. of America drained of self, whole families buried nightly before glowing television sets
. of

Figures are numbers, cold, emotionless,

/loveless/

Figures are numbers, used to maximize profit.

The Human Figure is an enemy.
Bureaucratic GM Ford Target Wal Mart Lowes Facebook MySpace Record Stores and Nike Factories see us all as numbers.

The workers that never see a boss, only the internet schedule
the woman at work during her brother's funeral because of an unforgiving 'sick days system'
and the man laid off to make room for someone lower on the pay scale
are merely human figures.
They are unwilling manifestations of corporate mentality and a nation of surplus.

the human form is simple
the human form is lovely, loving
is natural
divine

the human figure is a clone
the human figure is a zombie
the human figure is beaten
the human figure is a slave
the human figure is broken
the human figure is a machine, run by a machine
the human figure is pale, cowering, intimidated
the human figure is mankind's greatest enemy
the human figure is mankind's own creation
the human figure is mankind's greatest defeat.
