shared bread broken at the table
interspersed with chatter & sporadic laughter
reminds me of my own youth
family time was always 5pm
a mother's reward to us all
when 'noise' was all we had
to muster up the bang-bang drum of life
we were able then
to be loud, uncouth and rowdy
but often got the parental lash
of turn it down!
or hush it up awhile!
this then is the ending of the week
precious moments of time,
spirit and nourishment shared
awoken seas
seeds of planted daydreams
catch us on the curve
there is always something to smile about

youthy
don't even think that's a word but it's what it brought up in my mind, youth. Cool imagery pal.

traditions and routines do a lot to bind us to others, family customs take on new meanings as time passes and we have moved on to adult lives. WE had many routines and they became strong memories, the felling of belonging to a group, a family..is tied up in those things for me...very nice here to think of it again...PK

damn. i drove 'em through McDonald's...
a nostalgic bit of poetry. well done!

-
nice bit of come-as-you-were-then.
i remember my youth as chaos intersperced among poppa's backhands.
if nothing else, i learned to duck, dodge, and hide. lol

Pretty much how it used to be back in time for me too...
You expressed the sentiment of 'saudade' so well here Gill.
Loved the title, made me smile for I was thinking the same (about dinner)when I woke up

how you took me back to my own childhood on the farm, gilly. we always had pea soup (my favourite), steak and chips on friday, prepared on the big old aga-stove, lol. and yes, we were 5 children and quite a rowdy bunch too, lol - and still are

loved the soft nostalgia of this piece, and of course the underlying gentle tones of love and comfort. lots to smile about, gilly
you keep writing and smiling this way, my friend - it warms my heart too
