The Baby-Sitter

“Oh lady, spider,  or other critter
did you not meet the baby-sitter?”

........We saw him here the other day,
...at least we think he came this way.
............Though not as swimmy, and much more clean
...we are quite sure he was as green
.........as a toad and at least as wise :
He gawked at us in perpetual surprise.

“You met him surely then before!
Or was it a stranger? Please tell me more?”

........We met him yes. We said we did!
...He passed us by the old wood shed
............and left us gifts we did not need,
...notes, and text messages we did not read.
.........But worst of all he left us this:
a jar of mayonnaise and a head of lettuce!

“So you've met the baby-sitter,
oh lady, spider,  or other critter?”

YES! We killed him dammit! We hate mayonnaise!

Please tell me what you think

  • this piece is very silly and tons of fun! it read like a nursery rhyme, gamboling and skipping about like a lamb or a child at play. i was a bit confused by the constant stream of periods at the beginning of most of the lines, but this poem seems more like something for the mind to play with than something for the mind to understand. sometimes, we need to encounter something like that.
