Botany

Though I sensed the poison in your marrow
Knowing this should have served as deterrent
I knew no better than to accept enticement
Just one bite causing regret of the taste.
The scent drawing in nearer, closer, then away.
Close enough to be called your prey.
Patiently I wait. Eager to feel your attack
Subliminally consenting to this fate you've chosen
Your briers encompassing my body
Suffocating my heart with a warmth I've never felt.
Thorns pierce the delicacies declaring me human
And as the aroma of defeat permeates the air,
Simple chemicals with a mission and nothing else,
Call to adorn this outer shell. Drained of nectar
Laid to rest as the willows cease their weeping.
The gates of Eden are shackled evermore.
Captivity no longer binds me to these vines,
Which you'd tempted me with for so long.
