Young and In Love

Missing image

Just a blanket on a beach can be heaven
It matters not if it’s Southend or Devon
You don’t even notice where you are
When you are young and in love

You don’t care, if you’re snuggled together
That it is just English summer time weather
Not the exotic white sands of Zanzibar
When you are young and in love

The odd little kiss and tender words shared
Two young hearts are completely ensnared
That blanket’s on the moon or out on a star
When you are young and in love

Oh poor sweethearts, little do you know
That wonderful feeling, that inner glow
It’s a cruel illusion, it won’t get you far
It’s only when you’re young and in love

Thanks Easy for you sweet comment. I have not long been back from spending a week in my home town and it was so full of this sort of bitter/sweet memory. Now I am trying to catch up on everything. Sheila

What a romantic and full youth and love write. Yes a first love can be so magical and you will never forget it. I guess I am one of the lucky ones many years later in life I found my soul mate and it is like having a first love all over again but this time the feeling will last a lifetime, we have been together for over 7 years now and this November we will be married 4 years and still so much in love.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful and timeless poem, congrats on the Silver. Have a beautiful day, hugs Theresa

Thank you Theresa for leaving your lovely comment on my poem Young and In Love. I have been away for a little while and am trying to catch up. Congrats on your 4 years together. As long as there is real love a few years of wonderful closeness can beat the heck out of years of staying together for all the wrong reasons. Sheila

  • Awesome...

Wonderful rhyme scheme, touching narrative & vivid nostalgic imagery that takes us back to a time when that old temporary hormonal imbalance called love was all we needed...
    Great piece Mumsie
    Impressive as always...
    Keep up the good work...
    Well done!!!

First off - congrats on the Silver!! Nice job!!

I love the tender emotions this invokes in the reader. It brings back so many sweet (and bitter-sweet) memories. And so true - when you are young and 'in love', you can live on nothing but feelings...lol..
......but actually, the material things really didn't matter that much then. I don't think most people even noticed...lol
    again - nice job!

Aboomer thank you for your lovely comment. It is so good to have those memories to look back on. A far more innocent time, as you say, material things didn't mean as much then, being together was the only thing. Sheila

I don't like the new idea of rating comments. I think it should be the way you feel yourself. I see the idea behind it but I don't think it will work. Anyway, I will stop moaning and say thank you Hilly. How I remember that feeling too, love before the reality of bills and mortgages. Sheila

Thank you for your kind comment Islekine. Those who find that again or manage to keep it for a life time are those who are lucky way beyond material things.

Young love is so sweet but only for a while. We all start off with such deep feelings, hopes and dreams and then reality hits you and that wonderful feeling has gone. If you are lucky you never feel it again and then you don't get hurt again. Some folk seem to be lucky though but some of us are not. Thanks for your comment Bob. Maybe you were one of the lucky ones? Sheila

Not I Sheila, my good luck was all used up in surviving my adventurous escapades. My romantic interludes were consistently disastrous until my 65th year.
