Telemovies for all

The mountaineers were rescued
The media circus began
The chat show hosts were opening chequebooks
The djs were citing their bravery
The politicians were were saying they were true heroes
The experts were saying it was a miracle
The friends were talking about their lives as kids
The publishing house bought the book rights
The author penned the biography
The producer bought the movie rights
The director made the Hallmark telemovie
The world watched and cheered.

The teen that's been raped.
The orphan whose parents die in a car crash
The girl forced to run from a bad father
The boy who flees from another punch
The mate bullied to the point of bedwetting
The friend who's sister OD'd
The girlfriend who's 3 friends suicide
And me keeping them company.

The media calls teenagers useless
The chat show hosts talk about "all those teen abortions"
The djs label teens "scum of the earth"
The politicians wonder about the manners
The experts say "walk away, tell a teacher"
The friends say "Dude, spare a ciggy?"
The publishing house stands mute
The producer hires you as an extra, Thug 3
The director tells you "swear at that lady"
The world watches and says "Typical teenagers"

The mountaineers, brave as they were, chose the risky activity.
The world loves them.
The teens, brave as they were, sometimes fall.
The world hates them.

Author notes

This is more of a soapbox poem, and so artistically probably fails. I saw "Into the Void" again the other day, and afterwards was reading forums and it was post after post of "bless their brave souls". That type of thing pisses me off royally, for the above reasons.

You can apply the same mountaineers approach to many many things.

I love people who speak their minds. What is says is a poem all of its own; very well done!
