A shade of gray matter
born in the midst of colors,
protruding its veins to the healthy paintbrush
then, spilling its blood on the hopeful canvas –
a masterpiece shamelessly named
a cross-stitched society with etches of emptiness,
drawn from the howls of the hungry
and dyed from the tears of the thirsty –
thus, another painter feeds
the poverty of this cruel world.

Wonderful! I love it when the poem is more descriptive that the picture that inspired it. Your free verse is beautiful as your poetic voice brings it to life.
