Collateral Damage

And light seeps through
cracks in damaged self esteems,
dreams revisited
lifted cobwebs and dust
from abandoned visions.
A peace came upon me,
required for mending to begin.
Wholeness is a journey.

A friend, I dare not say close
for fear of increased persecution,
died today by his own hand.
He didn't call me...
He didn't call anyone.
Maybe I didn't leave the door open
obviously enough.
A door must be noticed to be used
and confused minds
are short of reason.
And so he took his life
leaving family and friend
to deal with the inevitable question,
"why" and
"what could I
have done?"
Sorry... This poem
is not done
but then
neither are the questions.

And light seeps through
cracks in damaged self esteems
dreams revisited
lifted cobwebs and dust
from abandoned visions.
A peace came upon me,
required for mending to begin.
Wholeness is a journey
and my life must move on.

The loss here is heartfelt. The pain of loss is evident. More often than not when a person makes a decision such as this they do not seek rationality from anyone. They make this choice, act on it and all is done. Your concern written here is with each one that reads the knowledge of; had you only known… In that case I am sure you would have acted in all ways possible to curtail this event. What is done is done and there is nothing we can do to undo such an atrocity. You have my sympathies and condolences. Sorry to bring this back to the surface but I realized that even though we spoke, I never gave comment here. Bless you for being who you are John. I know how grand your heart is, and I think the person knew as well. More often than not these choices are made in selfish recluse.

The questions always remain John. What leads a person to take that dark fork in the road? Aren't we all just an impulse away from following? Great poem my friend. So sorry for your loss!
