~~The Retired Cowboy~~

Missing image
Always a cowboy, that was all he knew
Jobs open to him now,are seldom and few,
A rough strong rider, when he was young and strong
Thinking about it now, doesn't seem that long

Years pass by when you are young and free
With a good horse to ride and cattle to see,
He never owned a cow, but that bothered him none
Working the owner's cows to him was just as fun

Just sitting their thinking about the roan or the gray
About the good feeling of a high stepping bay,
Reliving the past now is about all he has
Without his good memories life would be sad

An old bunk house had always been home
He remembered them all, as he let his thoughts roam
Never a large wardrobe to keep in style,
A clean shirt and blue jeans could always make him smile

Long retired now, and living in town
Not one bunkhouse, in town to be found,
Living in a bed and breakfast is now his throne
So he walks to the stables and on his horse rides off
Reliving his memories, and a smile all alone

    Very nice poem, Sis!

I enjoyed your poem about the cowboy whose glory days are over. Time does fly, no matter who we are or what we do. Memories are all we have to get us through.

Best of Luck in this contest, Sis! I'll be rootin' for ya!

    Lots of Love!
    ♥ Maureen
