Sigh

By daylight do we play our modest roles:
chronic
Platonic
tragicomic
characters of little consequence
--all due to damned devotion,
an arduous and solitary inclination called a virtue.

My soul aches for you,
weakening at each whiff of your ambrosial aroma.
Ingenuous, I betray myself with pirate smiles.
I linger longingly.
I never cross the line.

What guile is darkness!
revealing (and concealing)
true feelings.
Lips off-limits, your touch is
courteous, always courteous and electrifying.

Your quickened-then-even breath lulls me to ephemeral dreams.

Author notes

2. ambrosial, [craven], ephemeral, guile, ingenuous

Pirate smile
Solitary inclination

Wasn't this contest supposed to end like two days ago? Why haven't you won yet?

p.s. the first time I typed this, "contest" decided it would rather come out as "costume".

Oh, I love it! Delightful. Reminds me very much of how my current relationship started out--all forbidden and secretive, and...electrifying. =)
Great use of "pirate smile," exactly what I had in mind but couldn't put into words myself.
Thanks for entering, and good luck.
