Unusual things
are the norm around my house,
so I wasn't surprised
when my nose went numb
after a visit to the dentist.
I pulled a hair
and didn't feel a thing.
It was easier than
looking around for some scissors,
and felt like an accomplishment
because it didn't hurt.
My nose was
just gone,
awol,
missing in action,
missing like
Bush's Weapons of Mass Destruction.
I could have pulled
all the hairs with no pain,
but there would have been pain later,
and pain is not my idea of a good time.
So I just pulled one.
Did I miss an opportunity?
Who knows? Life is full of missed opportunities.
Most of them are more important
than a missing proboscis
and less important than
missing weapons of mass destruction.
Author notes
I was just in a weird mood and this was the result.
What did you think?

Someone should have pulled Bush's nose hair...because he sure pulled our leg!!!

I used to think ...
that Bush was insane. Now I just think he was purely evil all the way through. -
-
I think more are with you there now, I remember friends who voted for him the 2nd time and I asked them why would you give this guy another chance? When all the shit hit the fan I couldn't find one person who would admit to voting for him lol and yet they still hummed and ah'ed over Obama. It will take him years to rectify even a proportion of what has been done, and that's if the people allow him to do it. The strain and pressure of winning the Nobel now only makes it harder.
-
-
I don't expect much of Obama ...
because he's his own worse enemy. He is deluded enough to believe that he can work with the Republicans. Not even GOD could work with the Republicans. In the meantime, Obama will betray everyone who voted for him while desperately kissing up to the Republicans, who only want him to fail and will do anything to see that he does.
I believe the entire Republican Party should be tried for treason myself.

I remember reading somewhere impeachment was on the cards but I guess Obama was 'advised' not to open a can of worms, it's strange how the people who seem to want to do the right thing tend to get led by the nose ring of others to do what appears to keep the status quo, when we know that it ain't working and never has
-
-
It wouldn't have worked anyway ...
because there has to be 61 Senators voting for Impeachment for it to pass. There weren't enough Democrats to do that, and the Republicans wouldn't have voted against Bush if he had begun to kill babies and throw them out the windows of the White House. Republicans are essentially lowlife scum, and there's no honor or integrity in them. -
-
Well we never know what's coming from any of them no matter where we live, the sad fact is that we don't know the worst of the best people always seem to have the seat of power and when we get a half decent one we cut them down before they get a chance.
-
-
Yes ...
but it's not "us" who cut them down. There's a cabal out there of truly evil people who really run the world. They're the ones who make sure that the good ones don't last long. -
-
Hmmm, yes that's true, we or 'us' are only the instruments to put 'x's in the boxes the thing that frightens me most is the people who surround these men, the so called confidante's, aids and advisors...I'd wonder myself in that position of power just who I could trust, it still to me would be the most difficult job in the world, to be the leader of a nation,to please everybody would be impossible, to survive without some sort of reputation be it good or bad..i doubt anyone could escape looking squeaky clean and then there is Bush who escaped but history will say the mud stuck (hopefully)
-
-
Yes ...
I doubt history will be kind to the shrub. He screwed up things so badly that I suspect he will go down in history as an example of all the things Presidents shouldn't do.

This is a somewhat goofy poem. Rhyme would have livened it up!

Yes.
It is a rather goofy poem. Oh well. I did say that in the AN.

Definitely a very interesting write you have here. It was an enjoyable read, it kept me entertained through out and actually made me sit back and think, with a smile on my face. Ilove the way you ended this piece. It added a slight twist and really put the whole poem in perspective. A wonderful job. Thank you so much for entering. Best of luck.

Although you PICKED your topic well, it has a pecuLIAR NASAL quality, no beating around the BUSH about that. BTW, we know there were WMDS because we still have the receipt, lol.

I like this, it's quite humorous and because of the use of language I can't help thinking that there's an underlying message, most likely a political one due to the WOMD references. This piece really makes you think.
My own interpretation was that the poem was a comparison, a metaphor if you will, for the threats of the modern day.
A wonderful, thought-provoking piece with a use of language that is great in every sense of the word.
Warmest wishes,
Jess

You're quite perceptive ...
and, in fact, correct. The poem does indeed point to the uncertainties of life, and that we can never predict what may be coming at us from out of nowhere.

Another curate's egg....
ie, good in parts. The writer appeals to me as an admirer of the Theatre of the Absurd. So, when it gets on to his views about American politics, and WMD, all much rehearsed, my interest died away. These things always have a hectoring tone, like a man in the pub telling you what he reckoned.
Then again, missed opportunities - that is so full of possibilities: a man on his way to the top, impeded and thrown back, because , just at the point of entering a room to be interviewed by beings from the stratosphere, craps his pants. He is lost whatever he does. Or-- but I ramble.

Don't forget ...
that many of the soldiers who have died because Bush lied were not Americans. I seem to recall that a good number of British soldiers, and those of many other nationalities bit the dust as well.

Missed opportunities, numb nose, missing weapons of mass destruction. This is weird but in a nice contemplative way. This was enjoyable. : )

humorous
I smiled at this / the nose being insensitive as the weapons of mass destruction being
amiss/ still pulling a hair / seizing opportunity in this parody and paradox of
what happens when one takes a brash decision / missing the real question /the bloodhound's nose being inept / finding the wrong culprit / Bush's nose was out of whack that fateful day /

-
-
Nah ...
Bush just lied, as he nearly always did.
How are you doing lately? I hope life has evened out for you by now.
