You lived beneath the stigma. That you carried on high. You dogged bullet after bullet.
And waded though rivers of blood that came up to the thigh. You spent nights in pouring rain. Kissing all hope good bye.
Never knowing if it would ever be revived. All you can do is keep on fighting and trying to survive.
Then when the battle dies down. You stare at the overcast trying to remember the sun sweet shine. As you wait for the day that you can leave this all behind.
The day you can abandon this dread. For the glow of blue skies.

Excellent -- I've been there myself
except for the blood up to the thighs.
Hope this wins this Contest.

This was a good write, was it about war, or about an interal war you are fighting your self? there were a couple of lines that were my fav. "Then when the battle dies down. You stare at the overcast trying to remember the sun sweet shine. As you wait for the day that you can leave this all behind." Good luck in the contest

For some reason when I wrote this my focus was on the toll soldiers had taken in Vietnam. The stigma being that their in a country they shouldn’t be. And those back home refer to them as Killers and not as heroes. If you’re interested why don’t you give the poem below a read It may be right up your ally. And if you feel up to it leave me a comment.

This is a great addition to my contest. Through all the horror, we need to remember that there is hope. If you can survive, you can get through anything. I dont know if you were being metaphorical about war or if this is meant to be a poem actually about surviving war but either way, it was a great write. You have much talent and i thank you for entering.
best of luck in the contest.
