I Wish You Could Try

Every time you look at me
And I see your smiling face
There goes another piece of my heart
That I can't seem to replace.
All the smiles that you see
Never feel out of place
But well, you know
But there you go...

There used to be a you and me
One I knew so well
Until that girl came along
And shot it all to hell
Now I cannot bear to see
Her and you, and you can tell
But well, you know
But there you go…

Chorus:

I cannot make you change your mind,
I cannot stay here at your side
But if you ever need a friend
You know in me you can confide
I still need you in my life
More than I have any right.
I can’t make you love me,
Though I wish you could try.

Do you know you set my heart aflutter
When you look to me?
I have to keep myself from wishing
For what cannot be.

    *You're

    Something I knew so well...

Very cute and pretty. ^_^ It makes me feel sad, despite the witty rhyme scheme... =

    • Where is your edit? Yeah, this one was a weird write. Thanks for the comment, though!

        Second line, first stanza.

& "Something I knew so well" - second line, second stanza. ^_^ (Just an idea/comment, nothing more for this one.)

        • Hmmm. I don't think I agree on your first edit; 'your' is possessive, and (I think) that was what I was aiming for (it's been too long since I put the thought to e-paper, hahaha)--whereas 'you're' means 'you are'.

Hmm, I'll have to see how that line fits. Thanks!

  • This is really good :] I can really relate to it.
Great job of the interpetation of the song !
    Great write

    • Thanks. There's actually a situation in my life very like this song, so it's kinda...interesting. lol.

  • It's every song that I know by her.
