I was once young and innocent
But I lost all that in prison
I could have done with the experience
Before the government locked me in
Commited crimes, that I didnt understand
Sent to a place that was meant for tough nuts
I wasn't meant to be there,
But it was too late to cause the fuss
A child among women
An innocent among cons
No idea of the rules
or how to "Belong"
Finally told Im autistic
But how will that change the past
The shit has already hit the fan
and blown right past
My innocence has gone
The experience haunts my mind
Not knowing the concept of what I'd done
But still sentenced for the crime

very interesting concept to the quote. I really enjoyed the art work here. I would suggest putting the quote into your author notes and changing the title to something a bit shorter. It's interesting to see what we are taught as childern or rather not being taught as childern is brought into adulthood, and how it affects us. The question that was once asked to me, that this poem reminded me of is, "When does a legitiment reason become and excuse?" And another question I thought of while reading this is, "Do we ever get back what is stolen from us?"
My art teacher always told me, that a peice of art work is never completed until you've simply sold it, or ran out of time to work on it. I hope that you will seek others opions on this great peice of work and continue to work on it. I'll be reading all the poems entered into the contest over again the day I judge. Thanks for entering! :-)
