Where do you hunt for mermaids, after dark?
When your mermaid's not around what do you do?
Will you see her eating muffins in the park?
Don't want just any mermaid, only you.
Where can a mermaid go when she's away?
When a mermaid needs a break where does she go?
Will she tap you on the shoulder one fine day?
If you read this pretty mermaid, let me know.
When a mermaid has to go will she return?
When a mermaid says it's time, is that the end?
You have so much more to teach I'll never learn
You were never just a mermaid but my friend.
The way to live your life is yours to choose
But a mermaid and a friend is hard to lose

The Siren.
I awoke to taste the salt my lips,
As though I’d kissed the sea,
With my eyes still closed remembered,
All her world she showed to me,
In the depths I sank not breathing,
Then she took me by the hand,
As she sang me words so softly,
Till we reached her home the sands,
There a mountain made a city,
As it glittered neath the waves,
And we danced and swam together,
Mongst the fishes as they played,
Then she kissed me soft and wanting,
As we gathered pearls unfound,
And she showed me all the secrets,
That did once belong the ground,
Then we rose above her city,
Till we reached the mountains top,
There she left me safe and sleeping,
On the parched and ragged rocks,
I awakened to the morning,
All alone my heart to grieve,
For our worlds so far apart,
And all her world I wished naught leave,
Now each night I wait her calling,
For my need, her heart to ask?
All my soul to drown its wanting,
In her ocean deep, so vast.
As I hear the waves cascading,
On the mountain top her home,
But no more my life to see her,
Pon this island all alone.
I awoke to taste the salt my lips,
As though I’d kissed the sea,
With my eyes still closed remembered,
All her world she showed to me.

I've read some sweet tributes to her and I'm adding one more to the list

I expected the rhyming to be less stressed, cute though I suppose.

what kind of comment IS this?
Gawd. -

An honest one
-
-
yeah, okay.
-
It's a sonnet
So rather formally rhymed.
I cannot compete with Dalaney at FV, who can? So rhyming is what is left

I enjoyed this. The rhythm and stress is very good and it scans well. could visualize a mermaid eating muffins in the park brought back images of A Fish Called Wanda

a fine writer (and yes a pretty face)...

Wonderful...
This majestic composition deserves an ocean of applause.
I have enjoyed the reading of "Mermaid" form the first to the last line.
May the quill of the author of "Mermaid" keep dancing on waves of love.
In respect and appreciation,

The poem is a fine tribute, but it is a delightfully whimsical yet wise sonnet apart from the reference to a departing comrade-in-verse.

She indeed will return.
Dont be sad hearted
Its all good..search the sea...

I guess The Mermaid has gone back to the sea. She is probably sunning herself on Neptune’s coral strand. These mythical creatures are free spirits and a law unto themselves. We mere mortals will just have to be patient and await her return.
I like your poem,
It almost tempts me to find the time
To make my poetry flow with rhyme.
Regards, Peter
