a resonation of old familiarity sounds,
our voice, taking turns as you and me, merging,
all the sounds ebbing with the wave of time
crashing down upon us, drawing out our youth, giving us our age
and the spaces between...
our words tangle together
snared in the traps set by life,
tainted with the taste of
bitter longing and a demand to be free once more.
the shared knowing glances captured in brown and hazel eyes
truely knowing, not blind inattentive looks, or oblivious gazes
to the underlying meaning of our words
that surface with the loon from the depths of the lake
effortlessly ambling between the driftwood
and nestling on the island of understanding.
When we sit side by side
we find that place inside us
were we join together
amongst the sounds of the gently lapping waves
weaving us together, more intricately still,
where the loon's song bring us peace
and draw us back to the days of new and old.
Silence with a unwanted good-bye
as I jump into his arms, "I love you."
"I love you too." he whispers
and disapears again, like the loon in the lake.
Author notes
The title "Opium Dream" caught my eye, and when I first read it I was like "What the-?" but i was drawn back to it for some reason, so I went back and re-read it outload to myself, and smiles. I love it! It made me think of the woods, where I grew up, and my very close friend (and he still is today), and so this is where it took me. To the moon alice to the moon of my memories

Solid write poet, thank you for sharing this. The AN gives thought and intent, I hope to find such shared pondering in all entries. Top of the morn to ya, and best of luck in the contest.
