Clinging to a Memory

Woke up as though in a dream
Hazy days ahead of me and I can't seem to
Think straight anymore.
All I know is that this life is full of surprises,
And I'm clinging to a memory.

Took a stroll outside to lay my eyes
Upon a moonlight sky with a dusting of stars,
They twinkle like your perfect smile;
Your laugh reverberates through my mind,
And nothing sounds sweeter than the promise of happiness.

Shooting stars whiz by
Lighting up the path to you,
And I see that someone is guiding me there
Telling me to return to the past,
Would you take me back?

Something tells me that the answer is no
But how could I know unless I tried one last time.
Deep inside I am hoping to find
That within your heart you'll see
A future with me.

So could you please
Take a moment to think of us,
And see that tonight could be
The first night of our lives.

Please tell me what you think

Wow! This is a really strong poem. I feel like I'm sitting on a park bench watching you take this stroll...it's so powerful. I like how you admit that the answer is probably no, but still hold on for hope. I think a lot of us do that, I know myself that I am guilty.

    Great stuff, keep it up!
