Day of Yemassee

Doorway to introspection,
window to the soul,
light play on shadows,
the writer plays his role.

Pathway to adventure,
roller coaster of emotion,
spotlight on passion,
the writer plies his love potion.

Time worn trail to treasures of the past,
open volumes of relevant connection,
true sense of intelligence,
the writer pursues the reflection.

Petal strewn stepping stones,
freshened with new shoots arising,
multi pasts and futures intermingled,
the writer surpasses surprising.

Raceway of tumbling, crazy clowns,
parade of classics, compelling and historic,
reclusive Renaissance man,
the writer pleads  the metaphoric.

Roadways lead to one shocking destination,
nature's seclusion called Yemish Territory,
the Mayne state to find the unusual character,
Yemassee, of multi-personas, the subject of this story.

To foster appropriate notoriety and respect
it is proper to issue this grand proclamation:
All hail! All take note that July 17 is the Day of Yemassee,
an opportune time to create a Yemish commotion!!!

M
Man

If line could delineate
shape and form,
if value and texture
could build complexity,
if word could delve
between the layers,
if comprehension
could peel away
in revelatory manner,
myriad man would stand
humble, yet proud,
as the Moxie man.

"It's a Moxie miracle."

Author notes

"Pace, tap, pace, tap.
And when does my bloody
name get mentioned?"

"And my considerable skills...?"

"And all those late night screenings? Tsk, tsk!"

"Warning: Entering MoxieWorld, with its looooooong lineage of characters..."

    Tribute: A Rich Gift

How well you personify a complex personality that Yemessee showed me as my guide for a while, and his comments on two of my works. He seemed to take exception to my anwer back to him, and later that entry was wiped from my screen, I don't know w hy. He never commented on any other work I did, for which I was sorry.

A remarkable man, a gifted poet and writer, from his work I have viewed, without comment. I wish him welll all his years to come as a poet. I will read him now and brave a comment again.

Thank you, Arty, for this gift of your obvious admiration of Yemessee. Jack

Umm, deleted? I never delete comments that I make on others work. I'm sure I never deleted anything from your poem/story etc. If it was on something I wrote, well, I tend to delete a lot of the things I write.

I never took exception to anything you wrote or commented on. It's more likely I missed your reply. I sometimes get a lot of comments from friends and I can miss things. I also have multiple accounts and I sometimes get lost there too, lol

MC has only said positive things about you, so I only have positive thoughts. I'm sorry I never saw this earlier, just birthday greetings are uncomfortable for me and I guess I tended to avoid this kind poem by MC

If I haven't been back to your page blame MC, she is supposed to let me know when you have something interesting, so lets blame her! lol

Hope all is going well for you!

Yes, complexity and deletion are part of the persona of the character!

    Dear Aesthete,

    It's difficult for me to say which I admire more;
the words you pen so aptly or the images you draw.
For hereon is enshrined, of great import historically,
a never-to-be-repeated day: The Day of Yemassee.

Of all the many days between: three-hundred-sixty-four,
until next July seventeen there won't be any more.
So now's the one and only chance for us to carpe diem
and clamour, as we sing and dance: "YAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY YEM !!"

A pox on all who forgot it but thunderous applause for your poem and artwork.
    Love and hugs, XXX Hugh.

      Clever piece, Hugh,
      particularly the "carpe diem"
for I had never called upon
the phrase to rhyme with Yem!

Thank you for finding your way here
      and lending your poetic words.

Take good care---eapecially with all the storms around you!
Sending warm hugs to ward off the winds...

  • Artist at work! ...

and you have compiled a mirror image of what I know of Yem and have done so with class! Your author notes are a great wrapup to it all and the page looks complete with the comments which will only grow longer ( I know how the group likes to chat )

    I love the lines: "M

Arafura has no idea what or who a Yemassee is...that is ok, neither do I, lol

Wow, another lovely poem. My third one. Melodies' was the third. Kind words, far too flattering for someone as untalented and anti-social as myself. But because I'm also an egotist, I suck them up with fondness and apply them to my self-worth.

I don't have words, well, I do, you know I always to...they just can't do justice to the kindness and friendship you have shown. And I loved the graphics...and odd, I never made that connection with the Mayne name and Yem going down hrizontal at the "Y" in Mayne. That was creative.

Thank you. I don't deserve it but thank you!

RE the "Y"---I was contemplating symbolism
      for doorways, windows, pathways, trails,
raceways, roadways....and it fell into place.

Of course, arafura knows of the Yemassee--
he is a faithful reader--and the mime in
      the "Whodunnit."

      You are most welcome.

..where my mind conjured up an image of yem in pink pixi slippers steeping daintily across a small stream in spring..the image is kind of his fault..he's the one who told me he has pink pixi slippers..

With his ginormous feet, I bet my pretty petite pink slippers are all stretched out and stinky now. That's it. I have to a call into the elfin authorities now. They don't take kindly to peeps/veggies/buildings messin with the fairy footwear.
