waltz

another night on stilts,
exhausting-
you know I was made to dance

why else would you come...

not for the toys and holiday snaps;
backdrops to hide the spaces,
distract from tittering pauses-
diffuse potential guilt?

I know why you come here,
so...

    I'm a sucker for an ending that snaps you to attention. Yours did just that.

    this is so good...i love the ending, it's perfect and cuts right to the point. love the night on stilts, too.

  • Stunningly brilliant.

  • oh, I read this and paused, and read again - very effective writing. I confess I am a little chilled by the control of the final line...

      hehe, yeah, I had to pause and breathe for a sec before writing it and ending it there. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks!

  • Lovely, Chenoa.

    Perfectly written - really. I adored the extended metaphor and the great imagery.

    Really loved the rather pointed ending.

    the dances are all different. Different partners and different situations but the dance is the same. This plays out again and again and not just in your piece. You have a way around words in this case while still delivering the message. RC
