Sunshine sparkles on the water
as row boat glides by the stroke of the oar
Lily pads bobbing with long tails swimming
Lapping of waves against weathered wood
Brother and sister, tanned by the sun
A can of worms a hundred fold
Cane poles drop their delicate lines
As steadfast by our anchor holds
Silent and strong is our captain,
a man of many hard years
Soft of speech and gentle of touch
Guiding little hands with care
Blue gills and golden bellies
Adorn our treasured catch
Spoons are tools in children’s hands,
While silver scales go flying
Crisp and brown on Grandma’s platter
Bones piled high by Grandpa’s plate
Sleepy heads now are bobbing
A summer’s day, now at end

I liked the "easy feel" to this poem

Was Summer your Grandfather's favorite season? I just wondered since everything points to that
Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories; and yes, I DO agree that childhood memories make wonderful poetry

Wonderful! Great imagery. Superb atmosphere. I could close my eyes and imagine myself there. Truely amazing and very very beautiful. Fantastic! Thank you for entering my contest and good luck.

A very good description of a perfect summer's day. Ahhh, and now it's coming to a close, yet again. I like your poetry about childhood memories much better than mine, though.
Well done, Poet.
