Letters to my Past I

Familiar sounds of broken glass bottles
fill the hallways of my memory
footsteps fall quickly and heavy towards me
as I wake in a daze to silence.
I couldn't save you before the sunrise
and you slip away.

The funny thing is,
as I go through my day,
I don't miss you-not for a moment.
I'm fine without you here
But every time I hear from them
you're in trouble again.
Its been years
And I cant help but blame myself
for your condition
You stole my heart with precision once
But I think i may have broken yours
once.

The guilt is overwhelming,
the obligation is suffocating
disappointing myself over and over again,
realizing I never needed you
but you convinced me you needed me
so I stayed in a war I knew I'd never win
And now you have fallen to pieces
still without a real love
without a real life
you fade away far out of sight until
I can't see your street in the rear view.
But I have to keep driving,
So I take off and try not to look back.

Do you know how it feels to BE the one that got away?

I can't say that I was, a couple of times I felt like I was but that seems to swell my head a little so I shake it off. unfortunately we can't save everyone we want to save no matter how hard we try! We come in and out of poeple's lives to hopefully enhance them in some kind of way. What they take from it is up to them, if they have not yet learned what they needed to learn then hopefully they will soon! All you can really do is help them a little and hope for the best. Don't be so hard on yourself! Life is too short to be worrting about these things! you are right to keep on driving once you know that you have done your best!

Thank you for this! It has made me think!
