When did I fall in love with you? I know—
it was the day I realized that your goal
was for a woman with a heart of gold,
and not just one who found it good to throw
herself at you, and wrap up in a bow
a body that would tempt another sold
on lust, without appealing to your soul.
I thought I could arouse such love to grow.
Why can’t you see the beauty that I am?
I have the gifts you seek to fill your life.
I do not think I have excessive pride.
You know my words are honest, not a sham.
And though you are not looking for a wife,
I’ll fill the empty space beside your side.
~~ 2 ~~
I struggle with an unrequited heart
and find it hard to look your way. But when
I think that we might always stay apart
I find it harder to resist you then.
Your beauty sometimes rends me into pain.
I try to hide the tears your nearness brings.
Though once that mood has past I feel again
your shining light for whom my soul then sings.
I lay myself upon your mercy, dear.
I know your gentle nature and how kind
you treat me when I say I want you near.
Might you consider “us” within your mind?
What’s in your heart? Please let me have a peek—
you know I have the qualities you seek.
~~ 3 ~~
What joy we share when happiness unfolds
within our banter as with words we play;
it’s last line first, repeat the verse, I’m told,
leap frogging jaunty poems day by day.
And every time I’m happy just to say,
“It’s such a joy to spend this time with you.”
I’m glad for every time I get away
with tempting you to play with some haiku.
Our values are the same. But, held by few,
this limits choices in our dating pool.
Do you deny that of a kind, we’re two?
Yet you resist me like a stubborn mule.
I’ve opened up my heart and arms quite wide;
Come join with me and let my love inside.
~~ 4 ~~
What needs, unmet now, would you willing seek?
The wolf within your nature’s bound in shackles.
Fan passion’s flame; give in to it, be meek.
Don’t look at me in rage and shake your hackles
in impotent longing for running free
while bound by your own rules at wrists and ankles.
Your discipline’s well honed. It’s time to see
that yielding to your other half has power.
You’ve strength; now show your flexibility.
Are you afraid to shed your rusted armor?
What small protection! With each grinding squeak
it proves it’s flawed as guardian of your tower.
What needs, unmet now, would you willing seek?
Fan passion’s flame; give in to it, be meek.
~~ 5 ~~
Curtailed, your waning embers lose their heat.
Your life is being sapped by your own deeds.
A military regimen is meet
for many kinds of challenges in life,
but not for loving hearts with tender needs.
Between your strengths and “weakness” there is strife.
There’s power in reclaiming all you are.
Just tipping up the lid to gaze inside
releases pressure built up way too far.
Fulfillment of your needs’ within your reach!
Please let the Wolf out now and in him ride.
That part of you has wisdom, strength to teach!
Curtailed, your waning embers lose their heat.
There’s power in reclaiming all you are.
~~ 6 ~~
Once you’ve released resistance to my charms,
I’ll revel in the wonder of your laughter.
Just knowing that your heart is what I’ve captured,
that you decided to lay down your arms,
will fill me up with fragrant azure skies.
My dancing eyes will look up with a smile,
so glad to be with you this little while,
and see the merriment within your eyes.
With buoyant steps, my heart, swelled with its pride
entwines quite gladly with our palms and fingers.
It penetrates my breath as your kiss lingers.
You slow your pace so you can match my stride.
Though this continues as a fantasy.
I wish you would accept all that could be.
~~ 7 ~~
On timeless wings our flight in feathered pair
spreads rainbow colors out upon the air.
And linked in mind and heart our journey’s fine—
partaking of the feast of company
that loves entwined create as we fly free.
From dawn to dusk, and as the night descends
our bonds as lovers, partners, and as friends
will deepen. As with any well-aged wine,
it only will get better day by day.
Our lives, now shared, with gratitude I say:
“Fear not, my love, my place is where you are.
You are the one with whom I’ve built my nest.
I plan to give you only all my best.”
In partnership let our hearts travel far.
~~ 8 ~~
Released, like rivers rushing out to sea,
each rivulet through woven channels flows.
Bright droplets of warm waters mingle close—
there’s love that wants to flow ‘tween you and me.
Give up the fight, let open feelings be;
don’t struggle with the current; yield, release.
In journey’s sweeping pace you’ll find your peace.
Love’s healing flow becomes our sacred key.
Sweet laughter sounds, which causes dark to flee
as bubbling waves crest onto beach’s sand,
for now we walk together hand in hand.
Love flows from well to well, shared openly.
Released, like rivers rushing out to sea,
there’s love that wants to flow ‘tween you and me.
~~ 9 ~~
Unbound, like rivers rushing out unbound,
love flows through every rivulet of love.
Sound choices vary; thoughts rise to hearts’ sound,
above the din of conflict. Rise above!
Seek not so timid, if love’s what you seek.
Brave soldier, through dark passages go brave;
keep faith with us if love is what you’d keep.
Save for your passion, it’s your life you’ll save.
If you decide to hold back from “what if,”
retreat into your safety, let love go,
gifts forfeit; you’ll regret losing my gifts.
Row back to dock, go stand in shadowed row!
Had you only held what you might have had,
sad eyes would not be flowing rivers sad.
~~ 10 ~~
My velvet eyes caress each line of face
as music sweeps us in its lively beat
and with the drumming rhythm of our feet
we sway in timely movements, heaven’s grace;
my breath is caught as swirling colors glow,
cascade across sweat-beaded bodies bumping,
while in my breast my heart’s quite rapid thumping
keeps time with my excitement as steps flow.
I finally confess how much I care.
At least I had a chance to have my say,
though you let go my hand and turned away
and suddenly I found you were not there.
It would be nice if we could be together.
If only you’d accept what I can offer.
~~ 11 ~~
At first I was intrigued, then I was mad
for you. I unexpectedly fell hard.
How could I not when seeing your heart’s glow
(a soul I wanted very much to know),
delighted by my playful fellow bard?
So many months your presence made me glad.
However much I wanted you as mine,
the fruit of my love died upon your vine.
I was wreathed in smiles, now I find I’m clad
in rainbow tears of ashen colors marred
by pain. Infatuation had to go
when love between us would not grow. Not so?
I’ll mend my heart and reinstall my guard.
We’ll never know the love we could have had.
~~ 12 ~~
As now I know we’ll never be together,
I guess I’ll have to give up on my dreams;
I’ll have to find another who can see
the wondrous partner that I long to be.
Sometime’s infatuation’s what is seems—
potential's glow that won’t become “forever.”
In shadows’ grasp, I struggle for ease.
If only I could make love as I please.
Though hurt, I know this pain won’t last forever.
I’ll have to disassemble by the seams
my fallacies and work again on me—
re-cut, re-sew the cloth and pay the fee
for growth again, install a few new beams—
as now I know we’ll never be together.
~~ 13 ~~
Do not pretend that you might come to want
the precious gem I once gave you for free.
It’s only ‘cause I hoped that you and me
would bond that I have waited. Now I can’t.
Attentions now directed not towards you,
you find you’re in withdrawal from the shine
my dancing made when I sought you as mine.
The payment of the piper has come due.
Would you give up integrity and play
me? Just to stay the apple of my eye?
When you held back before? Do not deny
it! Want to dance? Then yield the coin and pay.
If you are not sincere that I have won,
do not deceive me; let me know it’s done.
~~ 14 ~~
Do not deceive me; let me know it’s done.
I only want to move on with my life.
Don’t leave me thinking you could be my “one.”
You’ve told me that you don’t want me as wife,
why tell me now that loving you’s okay?
Your tender tone and words create such strife.
And if you know how much it hurts, today
you must release me. What I need is space.
Just let it be over, for this I pray.
I need some time, for now I have to brace
myself for life without you near. The fun
is over. Have I clearly made my case?
Do not deceive me; let me know it’s done.
Don’t leave me thinking you could be my “one.”
~~ 15 ~~
I’ll fill the empty space beside your side.
You know I have the qualities you seek.
Come join with me and let my love inside.
Fan passion’s flame; give in to it, be meek.
There’s power in reclaiming all you are.
I wish you would accept all that could be.
In partnership let our hearts travel far—
there’s love that wants to flow ‘tween you and me.
Sad eyes would not be flowing rivers sad,
if only you’d accept what I can offer.
We’ll never know the love we could have had,
as now I know we’ll never be together.
Do not deceive me; let me know it’s done.
Don’t leave me thinking you could be my “one.”

Dearest Bear Woman::: I LOVED IT. I really did think it uniquely spelled out. like a mini' love novella ~ ♥ "there’s love that wants to flow ‘tween you and me." -- that line spells it out... SMILES.
-- felt to me very seductive... like an enchantress or something -- as well, enjoyed stanza eight... and the heat in stanza ten.... ! ... a most intricate write. LOVE,

Thank you kindly. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. I love that line, too, "there’s love that wants to flow ‘tween you and me." It kind of sums up the whole unrequited love theme of this sequence.

Thanks for taking on the read of this long write.
